De Notelaer

A pearl on the water

Along the dike of the Schelde in Hingene you will stumble across a striking building: the pavilion known as De Notelaer. The pavilion was built in the neoclassical style at the end of the eighteenth century. It served as a hunting lodge and festive reception space for the noble d’Ursel family. The pavilion belonged to their domain in Hingene and was used to receive guests with a scenic view of the Scheldt. The round salon with its beautiful parquet floor is particularly splendid. Explore the pavilion and conclude your visit with a piece of famous walnut cake! The surrounding domain is well worth a visit. Exhibitions and concerts are occasionally organised in the pavilion.

The role of Kempens Landschap

Since 2017, our organisation has managed De Notelaer and its surroundings. We have leased them from Tourism Flanders and the Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos. The exterior of the pavilion was recently restored completely by the previous administrator, the non-profit Herita. In the coming years, the restoration of the interior and enhancement of the domain will be continued by Kempens Landschap. The operation of the pavilion has long been carried out by the non-profit De Notelaer.
