Scherpenbergmolen

A mill in top condition

Two brothers, Johannes and Pieter Mullenbrück, had this bergmolen (or beltmolen) – a mill situated on a natural or artificial hillock – built in 1843. The Scherpenbergmolen, as it is known, got its name from the hill on which it was built: the Scherpenberg.

After restoration, the mill is once again in top condition and merrily grinds grain into flour. Every Sunday, the millers are happy to welcome you between 13h and 17h to see the mill in action. Climb into the different lofts and learn more about how the mill works! A guided tour of the mill is also possible on request. Check www.toerisme-malle.be for more information.

The mill domain won a Flemish monuments prize in 2011!

The role of Kempens Landschap

At the beginning of 2005, the future of the Scherpenbergmolen hung in the balance. An adjoining parcel with planning permission for development was going to be sold publicly. Any building on the site would be detrimental to the wind rights of the mill and would disrupt the picturesque appearance of the village. Fortunately this scenario never took place. Kempens Landschap bought the parcel and in this way guaranteed the future of the mill and its domain. The parcels were sown with historical grain species to enhance the authentic landscape. In addition, Kempens Landschap guides the municipality in managing the site and preserving the atmosphere and charm of the whole.
